WASHINGTON—Growth in U.S. health-care spending is accelerating after reaching historic lows, a pickup largely attributed to the millions of Americans who have gotten health coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

Spending on all health care increased 5.3% in 2014, according to a report Wednesday from actuaries at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. That compares with the 2.9% growth in 2013, which marked the lowest rate since the government began tracking the gains 55 years ago.

After San Bernardino, Can We Get Gun Control and Will It Help?

Peace and Freedom

WASHINGTON — With every mass shooting, the political debate intensifies over gun control.

California Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer has been one of the biggest proponents of new gun laws. She said Wednesday condolences aren’t enough.

“It’s heartbreaking to see another mass shooting in this great country,” said Boxer of the San Bernardino shooting. “It looks like a war zone and it’s not enough to keep lamenting these things. We have to take action.”

Mass shootings have become so pervasive that Hillary Clinton was actually talking about guns in Orlando minutes before Wednesday’s tragedy unfolded.

“It is time for us to say we are going to have comprehensive background checks, we are gonna close the gun show loopholes,” Clinton said.

Villajoyosa (Spain) (AFP) – At sunrise in the fishing port of Villajoyosa in eastern Spain, a fleet of traditional fishing boats sets out on the Mediterranean to hunt for cuttlefish, prawns — and plastic bottles.

Since July, Spanish fishing boats have been picking up plastic waste in the Mediterranean that will be recycled into polyester fibres that will be used to make a high-end clothing line.

“We want to present the first fashion collection made with yarn and fabric that come from garbage found at the bottom of the sea in June in Florence,” said Javier Goyeneche, 45, the president of Ecoalf, the Spanish company behind the venture.

Founded in 2010, the Madrid-based firm has already launched “a new generation” of clothes and accessories made from…

I grew up as a publicly trafficked child….

Patricia McKnight ~~ My Justice

Ask a survivor of forced familial child trafficking; what can you do today to end the cycle of this ugly truth today?

As a survivor of this vicious act against children, I have shared my voice publicly through training seminars, various speaking venues, including the Speakers Bureau for Southwestern Illinois Rescue & Restore Human Trafficking Coalition; Panel Speaker for St. Clair County Illinois Domestic Violence Reform Program; Prosecuting Attorneys Association Of Michigan’s Annual Victims Advocate Training. You will also find me through many web based radio program interviews, and anywhere I am given the opportunity. It is only after these past 10 years spent in recovery, rebuilding, and training to assist other victims that I am finally able to share my story.

The fact that my mother and stepfather encouraged, allowed, and actually invited groups of grown men to come into our home for late night parties with their young…

San Bernardino: Terrorism Not Ruled Out — Shooter a “Devout Muslim” Had Multiple Ammunition Magazines, IEDs, Pipe Bombs

Peace and Freedom

The Associated Press and Fox News

Law enforcement authorities are eyeing terrorism as a possible motive for an attack in Southern California that left 14 dead and was carried out with cold precision by a “devout” Muslim and his wife, who were killed hours later in a shootout with police.

Dressed in tactical gear and toting assault rifles, Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and Tashfeen Malik, 27, burst into a San Bernardino social services facility and shot up a conference room where Farook’s employer, the county health department, was hosting a holiday party. The pair escaped in a black SUV after the attack, which authorities said was over within minutes, only to resurface four hours later and less than 2 miles away in a fierce gun battle on the city’s main drag.

“They came prepared to do what they did, as if they were on a mission,” San Bernardino Police Chief…
